[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Let’s face it… it’s been a rough 12 months to say the least! We now have a hopeful end date (fingers, legs, and all toes crossed!) to the UK Lockdown, but this doesn’t mean to say that a lot of us aren’t still struggling with our mental health.
Here at Unpacked, we pride ourselves on our knowledge and relatability for University Students. From Memes to student recipes, we’ve got you covered!
But this doesn’t stop at the fun stuff, we know how important your mental well-being is and the struggles of student life.
Take a look below at some of our best advice for anyone struggling with their mental health at this difficult time –
TALK
We’ve had our fair share of Zoom calls this year, but a few more won’t hurt! If you’re living away from friends or family, it’s very easy to slip into a pattern of losing regular communication. Remember that a problem shared is a problem halved, and a lot of issues can seem magnetised when bottled up inside.
ASK FOR HELP
Seeking professional or medical help isn’t something to feel ashamed or embarrassed about. Console your GP or University Health and Wellbeing team who can offer you a number of different professional avenues to help your mental wellbeing. Use studentspace to find your University’s best Support program.
GET OUTSIDE
Walk, run, skip…whatever it takes! Try and fit at least x1 hour of outdoor exercise into your daily routine. This will help to process any overwhelming thoughts or emotions. get a clear head and surprisingly, give you more energy for the rest of your day!
MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE
What makes you feel good? What makes you feel like you? Find out what simple things bring you the most joy and happiness and schedule time for them every week. Treat these scheduled slots the same way you treat your studying time table!
BREATHE
We know what you’re thinking…I breathe all the time…every day!
HOWEVER…there are a number of extremely helpful breathing exercises that can be used to calm you down or help with anxiety attacks. We suggest using a guided video or audio for this, such as this one.
Although we aren’t able to support one another in person this year, we can still be there for each other in many other ways.
