What are Induction Saucepans & Frying Pans?
Induction hobs are increasingly popular throughout kitchens in the UK, including in Universities. Cheaper pots and pans will not work on induction hobs – a light on the hob will start flashing if it’s not the correct type of pan.
The only suitable pans are ones made with a magnetic material in the base, such as cast iron or stainless steel. Pure aluminium or copper pans will not work on an induction hob unless the base is bonded with a magnetic metal.
All of our pots and pans are induction cooker ready, so you do not have to worry!
They also work with electric, gas & halogen hobs.
Pots & Pans Maintenance.
Never leave an empty pan on a hot burner or in a heated oven.
Ry not to put a hot pan in cold water or pouring cold water into it. This can cause the base of the pan to warp. It’s always best to leave a pan to cool before washing.
Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool or abrasives to clean them, it can damage the non stick coating.
If you need to remove tough burnt-on food, the best way is to half fill with water and add a dishwasher tablet or tablespoon of biological washing powder. Boil for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Duvet Togs sizes & Materials.
The lower the tog, the cooler you will be. So you need a lower tog for Summer (4.5 tog) and a higher tog in Winter (13.5 or 15 tog).
The perfect all year round tog is 10.5. You can easily add extra blankets for more warmth if your student accommodation is very cold.
Duvet Materials
Natural material duvets such as down filled, feather filled and wool all have great qualities such as being super soft and breathable, however. They are often far more expensive and can cause allergic reactions in some people.
Synthetic (also called non-allergenic) duvets are great options for those who are allergic to feathers, down or dust mites. The synthetic fibres also wick away sweat and can be washed much more regularly than natural fillings. They can be categorised as hollowfibre or microfibre.
We use synthetic duvets at Unpacked because they cannot cause allergic reactions and they are easy to take care of compared to natural alternatives.
